I placed an order on Jan 8 this year from Canada, and still haven't received it as it "has gone out surface and not by air" (they're words). How long am I expected to wait if something's gone out by surface? I ordered beauty products.

Do you think I should ask for a refund? After all, it's their mistake that it wasn't sent by air? Money has been taken from my account.

By air means by aircraft and flies in on a route.

By surface means by land and sea, if the goods are coming from Canada, depending where you live, if in the UK the will come via sea in a container possible. This will mean the goods are consolidated with other item's, put on a pallet, put in a container. The container is sent to the port loaded on a ship that sails to the UK, unloaded at the port in the UK, it then has to clear customs up to 14 days depending on what other things are in the container and if the paper work is correct, then sent to the import agent, the container is broken down and then the goods are shipped to you. This can take up to 6-8 weeks.

By road IE lorry/truck if living some where the country is connected to Canada by land. This depends on how many stops the lorry has to make on route.

You can as the route of the parcel and if coming via sea ask the agents details in the UK if coming here.

Hope this helps. Good Luck

I'm guessing that means, that they have used every way to send your order, except by air.

So they've probably been sent by lorry to a port, then are being shipped over by sea and will then be delivered by lorry to your local area.

Travelling from Canada / America to the UK takes weeks by boat, I'm not sure how long, but find out if you're worried.

It usually means it travels by sea and road instead of air and road though a lot of overseas mail is still sent by air these days because of the decline in mail ships even though it is marked surface mail.

Surface usually means "By Boat and Van". That is very slow indeed. A term mainly used in USA when items can be flown internally or taken by Road

It is sent on a huge container with lots of other cargo ship which moves very slowly, making lots of stops and eventually, after a month or two you will hopefully receive it.

Surface mail would be usually by boat which takes along time. Try the Royal Mail website they may give you a more accurate answer.

Surface mail means just that - traveling along the Earth's surface by truck, ship, donkey, hedgehog, tortoise or any other available transport. Expect it by June.

When something is sent by Surface mail, it means it is coming by sea, it is on a ship.

Going by trucks and not planes, that is what it usually means, when they say by surface. Good thing its not by media mail, you might be waiting til May, but by surface, could be from 4-8 weeks.
Did they quote you a time frame?

They are shipping it from a boat. It will probably take about 6 months to 2 years.

To those of you answering it's by truck, I hope the truck has fins.
