Hockey is DEFINATELY NOT better then baseball and i dont know where your getting that poeple like it better. ESPN puts a dog show or even professional darts on over hockey because the NHL is not exciting. It would hurt their rating because no one cares. Believe it or not, the dog shows get more viewers then a hockey game. The NHL needs a major change.

It depends entirely on taste. Hockey is a fast paced contact sport that is entertaining for those who know the sport. For a casual sports fan, there are quite a few things to learn to understand all aspects of the game which can be discouraging. Also, usually not that high scoring but you do get the occasional fight. Canadians and a few other countries grew up watching the sport and will always have a passion for it. Baseball not so much.

Baseball is about tradition, concentration, focus, and numbers. It really is a simple game to learn and harder to play than many realize. It is about strategy. Games are usually longer, not as much action as there is time between pitches, batters, and innings. Americans and a few other countries grew up watching the sport and will always have a passion for it. Hockey not so much.

But if you gave both sports a fair chance, any real sports fan would be happy watching either.

Hockey is a great game, fun fast paced but the year long strike Killed the NHL. ESPN used to have tons of NHL games on until the strike happened and pissed off all the casual fans. Baseball's strike hurt for a while but people got over it because baseball is America's past time and always will be.

You will find that the only people who think hockey is better are those who live in the cities where their hockey teams are having a measure of success. I remember back in the '70's when the Philadelphia Flyers had a great team and won two cups in a row. During that period everyone was jumping on the Flyers band wagon. But it didn't last. Baseball is still the greatest game in the world and the media knows it. Once baseball starts it's spring training games, (within the next couple of weeks), most real sports fans will forget that there is an NHL, except for those in Canada.

Biggest reason is the pace of the game...there is always something happening during a hockey game...The reason espn doesnt have hockey is they dont have a tv contract with the NHL...but they may not want it any way because most people outside of NHL cities dont care about hockey, and a lot of people will only watch their team anyway.

Simple. Baseball is boring. The last baseball game I went to I ended up finding a T.V. and watching college football. The game is way to slow. I can barely get through one inning much less a whole game. Hockey is much more fast pace and exciting. Being from Atlanta, I would much rather go to a Thrashers game (even when they weren't winning), than to a Braves game, even if they were in playoff contention. The game would still put me to sleep. Hockey is way better and I'm not even Canadian.

ESPN shows what they happen to get the contracts for, as there are other networks to compete with. Hockey is way better than baseball, obviously, because it is more exciting with a faster pace. America's new pastime is the automobile.

Baseball is America's pasttime but there is more than America in the world. People like hockey because it is fast paced with hard hits and awesome goals/saves/fights.
