Lions, tigers, elephants, rhinoceroses, bears, giraffes, crocodiles, whales, dolphins, sharks, eagles, ostriches, penguins. I have to go to the zoo to see them, but I want them in my house.

You could actually. If you have land, and proper fencing and cages you can talk to the state and get permits and inspectors to come out to your house and check the place out and see if you are fit to care for such animals. I don't know how to go about it, but I'm sure you can google something up. I live in Oklahoma and it is perfectly legal to keep ostriches in your back yard. My friend had a lot of them, but they were expensive to keep. Also, you may try to enter your permit as a rescue center and get donations from the public to help care for rescued animals that the local ASPCA may find. They are constantly finding illegal lions, tigers, bears and crocodiles in peoples homes and backyards, and you could present yourself to the shelter and show you are capable of housing these animals. People do it all the time! These animals are also harder to feed because they don't have commercial foods, like you can go to wal-mart and get dog chow, but you can't get lion chow. They need a few pounds of real freash meat everyday. And elephants eat thousands of pounds of hay and grain a day, and with the weather, all that is scarce and expensive. Whales and dolphins and sharks are sea animals and absolutly cannot be kept anywhere else. So if you play your cards right you can really have anyone of those above animals. You might have to take a handling course or 2 before you get your permit tho. You can own a half wolf without a permit. People sell them all the time in the paper here, along with buffalos

OK, flash of reality!
First of all, you could not keep any of these animals listed in your house! They are so large and powerful (with the exception of the eagles and penguins), the walls of your home would not contain them. All of these animals also require much more space than your home/apartment can offer. Many on your list also have highly specialized needs that only a zoo, or the wild can provide. And lastly, many on your list can never be domesticated - makeing them a danger not only to yourself, but to everyone around you.
There is hope - if you become rich and famous like a certain King of Pop, you could afford to build your own private zoo and keep such animals. Till then you'll have to enjoy them in someone elses care at the zoo.

mainly because many are endangered or at least listed as exotic.
and you'd have to be a multi-millionaire to keep them housed, fed and watered to be kept healthy. in the case of some of them they can live well over 50 years.
whales, dolphins and sharks would need 10-100 THOUSAND gallon tanks. much larger than the average swimming pool and with expensive filtration on that too, imagine the electricity and water bills!
none of those animals can be kept in a house. or a back garden. they would need their own custom enclosures.
however in the case of eagles and ostriches, these can be kept privately, with eagles only certain species would be available, many being endangered. and ostriches are farmed for their meat. i wouldn't go and get one on a whim though, only recommended after spending time with someone else who keeps the creatures to understand what they will need to thrive and be healthy.
ostriches are odd animals, and remember, if one kicks you, it's kick is so powerful it could kill you.
i however do "own" an elephant. it lives in a born free sanctuary in Sri Lanka and is going to be released into the wild when she's healthy and grown up. my housemate got me her for xmas! if you really want one of these animals, maybe sponsorship is the way to go?

Their exotic animals. They aren't legal for pets because of their instincts being stronly intact. Imagine what would happen if a tiger got out of its cage and into and neighbor hood and incountered a kid. What would his instincts be then? To hunt of course and the kid would be lunch. Dolphins and sharks are much too large to be kept in houses and pools they need open space. None of the animals you want are friendly by nature and could eaisly harm or kill you if you aren't professionally trained or know what your doing.

You could get a permit to own a fox or wolf, but do you really want to do that? They are wild animals for a reason!

Maybe it is because the government has no idea of what a person needs or wants,
Maybe we should have Lions, tigers and bears? maybe they shouldn't be illegal who knows.
but im sure i would love to own them too :)

These animals need a lot of space, and they might just think that you are lunch. How will you feel if someone put you in a small space?

Because they are not traditional pets and they are unable to be raised by humans that don't know what they are doing properly.
