If you're using salicylic acid, don't exfoliate more than twice a week as the skin can become dry and be extra sensitive.
If you have:
Dry Skin: once to twice a week.
Combination/Oily skin: Three times a week.
However, if your exfoliator is very rough or strong, don't use it too often. A gentle exfoliator used more often is usually better. Don't rub up and down, always use gentle circular motions and never scrub so much that it's painful. You're supposed to be getting rid of dead skin cells, not removing a layer of your skin!
Always, always moisturise afterwards. And if you exfoliate very regularly, use a moisturiser with a sunblock in it.

That all depends on your skin type and the type of product you use. If you have very dry skin you might need to exfoliate more although sometimes exfoliating too often can result in dry skin! Some products are harsher than others and need ot be used less. Personally, i think that once a week with a good exfoliator is enough.

"If you decided that exfoliation should be a regular element of your skin care routine, how often should you do it? Except for people with extremely oily skin, daily exfoliation is not a good idea. You goal is to remove the dead cells from the skin surface. It takes at least a few days for a sizeable amount of dead cells to accumulate. If you exfoliate more often than that, you may be removing too many living cell, increasing the chance of irritation and skin damage.
For most people who decide to exfoliate, once or twice a week is sufficient. You should determine optimal frequency based on your skin type, strength of the exfoliants you use, application technique and other factors. If you develop irritation, increased sensitivity or dryness, you are probably exfoliating too much. "

often at the back of the product for exfoliating, they tell u how often u should exfoliate in a week. i found that it usually says to use it once or twice a week depending on your skin condition. if it's dry or sensitive, once a week is better.

It depends on the product that you will use. There are facial cleansers that have exfoliating ingredients that can be used everyday like the nivea facial wash products. For deep exfoliation like the tretinoin products it can be used everyday for a month then you have to stop so that your face can rest.

As many times as you feel neccessary. It depends on your skin type really. If it is a bit dry then exfoliate more often and reduce if not so bad.

I do it about 3-4 times a week, don't use any special products though, just my face wash and a muslin cloth (like the ones people drape over their shoulder for winding babies) much cheaper and works better for me

Depends what method and what product. Some products are designed for daily use and are very gentle, some are designed for weekly use and are a little harsher.
