if you have to be 17 in the uk to start to learn to drive, and pass a theory test and pratical test to be able to drive. is there any sort of test when we get over a certain age? i know there is some sort of medical but shouldn't there be an actual drivin test? as we get older we do become less 'sharper'.

i agree i do think that people should have to sit the driving test every 10-15 years to make sure that they are still fit to drive. This is also a good idea (esp in Ireland) because our road networks have changed so drastically. I mean, 20 years ago Ireland did not have 3 lane roundabouts!!!

I'm not from the UK, I'm from the US, but this question has been raised more than it should be here. I say NO! Yes, with age, reaction time slows and some alertness too. However, as a state trooper in the area said... we know the older people are on the road. They've lived, learned, and more important taught us and given to us. So, as they decline with age, we compensate and give back to them. Most of the time either they or their family decide that it's no longer safe for them to drive. Let the elderly keep their life as functional as possible for as long as they can. You know they're on the road, so you watch out for them. Elderly cause way less accidents than young drivers that think they're invincible and can't wreck.

Not at present, but it is an issue that the government are considering. In fact, it may even be that people will need to take a driving test every 10 years or so to ensure they are still competent drivers.

HTH : )

Apparently when you are 70 you just have to fill in a form to say you are still medically fit to drive.

I think we should re-test, and I think the age to learn should be raised aswell.

In the US you can get your permit at 15 and a half and drive with an adult.
