Being female I read the instructions if only for the possible fact that it could make the project go easier. Try it and let us know.

as a woman who follows the directions after reading them i would say read first
umm but i always have a problem tho
even after i have read them and followed them to the letter
(scratches head) i always end up with more parts and pieces
i know they belong in there somewhere but i can't find the spots so i have a drawer full of extra screws, nails, nuts and bolts and odds and ends that sooner or later will go to something

If it's software, fall-back plan.
Furniture, follow the directions! On most of that self-assembly type furniture, if you put it together wrong the first time, it weakens the stability.

My husband does all that stuff - I'm not mechnically inclined. I've never even hung a picture on the wall.

Great back up plan. Half the time they're in Spanish or Chinese anyways.

it is easier to strip a dresser than dress a dresser - the manual won't help...
