The primary theory of the earths rotation also has to do with a leading theory on how the moon was formed.
The theory states that a proto-planet about the size of Mars collided with the Earth on an offset impact imparting angular momentum to the Earth, as a result of the impact a large amount of debris was expelled into the Earths orbit which formed into the moon.
The theory when modeled on computers using thousands of data points hold this to be a real possibility. But interestingly enough there is some debate regarding if the Earth was already spinning but obviously at a different rate and possibly on a different axis, when the impact occurred. The computer models also show this as a possibility.
The relationship between the Earth and the moon is an interesting one. They both orbit a point that is below the Earths surface but not actually at the center of the Earth. This causes an imbalance of forces which among other things is why the Earth experiences tides. This imbalance is what has been gradually slowing the rotation of both bodies, and is in fact pushing the moon farther away. The speed of rotation of the Earth has been slowed of a long period of time. It is believed that the Earths period of rotation shortly after the impact and forming of the moon was around 10 hours and has over a very long time slowed to 24 hours.

Scientists don't say the Earth will start rotating in the opposite direction. There is nothing that can cause the Earth to stop rotating in its current direction and start rotating in the opposite direction. It would take a large mass very close to the Earth in the right location and the right trajectory to cause this. The 'pole shift theory' is the hypothesis that the axis of rotation of Earth changes - that its physical poles will shift. It is established that true polar wander has occurred at various times in the past, but at rates of 1 degree per million years or so. That is a very small change over a very long time (no way we would notice even over a lifetime). But because people don't understand scientific terminology, misconceptions and misunderstandings are common. Pole shift hypotheses are also not to be confused with geomagnetic reversal - the periodic reversal of the earth's magnetic field (effectively switching the north and south magnetic poles). Geomagnetic reversal has more acceptance in the scientific community than pole shift hypotheses. At present, the geomagnetic field of the Earth is weakening at a rate which would, if it continues, cause the magnetic field to temporarily collapse by 3000–4000 AD. If that were to occur, the field would re-establish itself with the magnetic poles reversed (by the way, the sun does this magnetic polarity flip every 11 years).

I have read somewhere (I can't quote because' it's long time), earth, moon and others were nothing but SUN. There was a huge blast and these got seperated out from SUN like pieces and started revolving around SUN due to gravitational pull. Initially they were all not spherical in shape. Billion years of rotation brought them into spherical shape as it is the most stable shape an object can attain in circular motion.
The distance betwen sun and earth is just enough for life to survive. Hence earth has life and ohter planets don't.

Buddy you are silly. I will try to make you reasonable. If earth doesnt rotate sun cant be seen on all parts of the globe, life would be disturbed as ther will be no nights. Now we come back to the human needs, humans need to sleep otherwise they cant grow, human body grows only when the bodyis in sleep state. Plants can do respiration only in the absence of light. When ligth is there its only photosynthesis that can happen. If plants wont grow there will be no food. No food and no sleep humans/any life wont exist. For the existence of life and hence the humans the environment should be like we are having it now. Forget pure physics or science because whatever said there is only in relative terms. In absolute terms there is more which no science could answer. Its for the sake of human comfort the earth is what it is. Have you ever wondered why earth is having OZONE LAYER, why doesnt the angualr velocity of earth change even though we sent much of the mass outside of our planet by means of rockets,ISS etc.

Everythng in motion has a tendency to spin .Only thing s tht can be stationary ,can be with ot spin. When the galactic matter gets pushed violently due to the explosion - the Big Bang, the matter that is viloently thown up and away strats moving with a spin and ther is nothing to stop the motion and spin that was set by the big bang .That is all.

please excuse me a second way?
at the point you question, concider this, there was enough formation of our sun to have spent enough time to evolve to achieve the density is had. while doing this is also had not enough gravity formed to maintain it's sum of light to keep it all there.
as the (two things at one time) could move away and the density of the sun increased (again at the same time) what the light that had escaped evolved back to it's baser atomic structures but then because of the building gravity of the sun, was held in the location we see now. what we couldn't see was this simple stale mate increased the density of protons increasing the times they would collide. after enough time they began to establish and for the earth's elements we now understand, the oxygen, carbon bonds in variations to produce a new form of energy, which as it's gravity grew, produced ist air, water, then single cells of life. (during the same time, the sun's gravity increased too) it was the opposite train of thought as to the reason of black holes, why? because of enough light to escape, and the time it took for our sun to get to the point it is, it gave an alternate route, our planet's axis was most likely established during that time, the rotation and tilt too. not all this was done is seconds. the force of gravity, with enough time could possibly be the reason for the tilt and roation of our planet. remember, we cannot see at what ends held the negivite (pushing away) or posotive (pull) that caused the axis and rotation of this planet to start. many other reasons like you mentioned have certainly come into play. but as for the actual,
like always, prove me a fool, i don't mind trying to answer with foolish ideas as long as i have a chance to learn.
let me know, i'd like to know too.

the way i understand it the earth was bigger at one time and was hit by another planet, causing the rotation plus the debree made the moon.......they clam the moon millions of yrs ago was 14 times closer to the earth than it is now, and gradually pulling farther out..........but could you imagine the moon being 14 times closer, what a site that must of been
