I'm picking compassion, as it's one of the values I'd like more people to express. Since each person's behavior affects several others, directly or indirectly, the way to see more of this quality is to practice it. For me to act with compassion means that I slow down my reaction time when I'm mistreated, thus not easily forming a negative judgment. I remember, "this person was probably mistreated in order to have become this aggressive/selfish/egotistical." The same goes for seeing people in need, I believe there are reasons I don't yet understand as to why and how they got into their position of need.
Also, when I imagine how I can increase my display of compassion, I find myself planning ahead. I make preparations which involve budgeting my time, money, energy, so I might share with or assist others. How I view individuals is in direct relation to how I want to see the world, which would be in a greater state of harmony (a balance in the 'give and take'). It's a practical life-lesson in "think globally, act locally" and "be the change you wish to see in others."

I hope you're going to say the above is a contribution to your research, and not quote it as your own...

For me the highest value I can have is to set my standard on what I believe God would want me to do. In as much I am best off praying only for knowledge of God's will for my life and the strength to carry it out. Because I believe that God's will is good will, I need only to trust in his will for me. As a rule I find that God would have me intervene/teach/help/assist/educate/speak up/correct/save/blah blah blah a whole lot LESS than what I want to do. It is often his wish that I get out of the way rather than get in there and muck it up. But the value of seeking god's will and the strength to carry it out - NO MATTER WHAT - that is the highest value I can possess.
