My daughter is having a sore throat and ear infection and is not eating anything since four days. I've been forcing her to eat but this is not helping either. Beside I used to breastfed her but since four days she is not drinking my milk. She is not drinking anything in bottle either and during the night when she wakes up she don't prefer to sit and drink milk in the glass!
I can't offer her nothing but a little bottle of her iron-drops filled with my milk and this is all she drinks.
Her throat is getting much better now and she dont cough much and for the ear infection she is getting pencilin.
My question is is it normal that babies dont suck when they have sore throat? Will she start taking my milk again. What should I do? Im giving her milk in a cup once a while during the day. Is it ok or should I give her formula milk as she is still 11 month old?
Please help! Im pathetic!

No, no, no! You are not pathetic at all! All mothers have gone through something that makes them feel like they're pathetic as a parent, but I assure you, you are not pathetic!

When someone has a sore throat, be it a child or an adult, the sucking motion causes the throat to naturally react. It's an involuntary action and cannot be avoided, just as your heart beats without you having to do anything. It's just how the body works. Because of this reaction, it can be extremely sensitive and painful when she sucks on anything, be it your breast or a sippy cup.

Because she is only 11 months, it's not advised to give her any medications that are not prescribed to her from her doctor. Cut and dry. Unfortunately, you seem to be doing the best thing you can do... always providing her with fluids at all times. You seem to be doing fine right now and if she gets worse, of course take her back to her doctor. As mothers, it breaks our hearts when we can't seem to take the pain away from our children. It's just a part of parenthood. Keep your chin up and just let her take it easy.

If her cough is getting better, then chances are her suckling problem will go away soon also. Coughing irritates the throat, thus making it difficult to suckle. Be patient, it's the only thing you can really do right now. I wish you the very best!

Your not pathetic!!!!! I would keep offering her the breast if it's really important to you the longer the better, my children all nursed over a year, I would be concerned about giving her whole milk becasue it's a little harsh on the digestive tract especially for breastfed babies, causing constipation... If she refuses to suck try pumping and giving her that it's really important that she not get dehydrated... and If she just doesn't want the breast milk try goats milk it's not as harsh as cow's milk and you can get it in the grocery store... I would keep offering the breast atleast until she is completely healed, so your milk doesn't dry up before then and after she is better and she doesn't want it than try the other options.... Good luck and hang in there motherhood at times is tough, you will get through this I promise!!!!

Since your milk supply is based on demand, I hope you've been pumping. Even if it lessens, when she starts nursing again, it will increase.

When kids have sore throat and ears, it is normal to not want to suck.

At her age, she may or may not start to nurse again. All you can do is offer when she is feeling better. My second self weaned about the same age. I never gave her formula, as she was eating from the table by then.

First off u are not pathetic. Like most kids when they aren't feeling well they don't wanna eat or drink anything. If i have learned anything from my kids is that they will not starve themselves they will eat when they are hungry or feeling better. It is ok to now start her on white milk. If she will drink it, encourage her but make sure it is homo milk. they need the fats and that in the milk for their bodies. You are doing nothing wrong and when she is feeling better, she will eat. You are doing a good job...keep it up.

Do not panic. He WILL be ok with out it. From the little you have said, 1. You breast feed - excellent! 2. He drinks plenty - excellent! 3. He eats like a horse - excellent! Dairy products are found in other foods, cheese, yoghurts, etc. He is 11months old, and has plenty of time to experience a strawberry milkshake!!! Yum Yum. Do not worry.

did you take her to the doctor yet? Her throat probably hurts when she swallows so it is normal for her not wanting to suck
