You have to go into the History of the South to see when the Indians were put into slavery. The indians, however, presented a problem. When an indian man got close to the edge of a wood, he was gone. Indian women, on the other hand, not as familiar with the woods, stayed on the plantation. When blacks moved in, many married Indian women and thus y ou have a large population of black today that are part indian and much black folklore (ie the stories of Uncle Remus) were from Cherokee folklore and not african folk lore.
