I did some read up on this subject. And evidence for his death is just as strong as him faking his own death.
His well known alias Makaveli indicates him faking his death.
While in prison Shakur read many books by Niccolò Machiavelli. Topics discussed in his books include faking own death to get advantage over enemy.
In any case, whether the legend is dead or faked his own death (and currently living at unknown location) we wont see him again.

The guy has released so much since he got "shot" but if you need proof, I saw him on the slab on rotten.com a while ago. Either way, I really don't care. I have no interest in him at all.
