Boys are born with a hood of skin, called the foreskin, covering the head (also called the glans) of the penis. In circumcision, the foreskin is surgically removed, exposing the end of the penis.
Approximately 56% of all newborn boys - about 1.1 million babies - are circumcised in the United States each year. The procedure is much more widespread in the United States, Canada, and the Middle East than in Asia, South America, Central America, and most of Europe, where it's uncommon.
Parents who choose circumcision often do so based on religious beliefs, concerns about hygiene, or cultural or social reasons, such as the wish to have their son look like other men in the family.

I don't think any American does "sircumcision" I do believe it's rather popular for Americans to have their males circumcised. I believe it's a pretty high percentage, as uncut penises are considered dirty, and unhygienic here. Not saying there is anything wrong with anyone being uncut, they are just more work to keep clean, and can harbor bacteria more easily than a cut penis. So most American parents have their boys circumcised.

Unfortunately it used to be common to mutilate American baby boys in this manner, but now it is out of fashion (happily) and becoming less and less common all the time. I am one of the fortunate few adult American men whose parents had the good sense to leave my penis alone! Circumcision reduces sexual pleasure for both men and the women they have sex with. See http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/408/60750.html for the effect on women. It is easier to masturbate if you have a foreskin, and your woman will enjoy playing with it, too.
Melissa, grow up! Foreskin is only dirty if a man doesn't wash it. Would you cut off your ears rather than clean behind them?
If your parents had your foreskin removed, you might want to consider restoration: http://www.norm.org - it is a long-term process, but many men are happy with the result.

When I was in school (about 350 students), I only remember 2 guys not being circumcised. I think the clear majority of American males are circumcised.
