Most of these people are idiots. The guano is rich in various compounds necessary for black powder including ureic acid that gives it that extra punch. Of course I am not going to say, and there are MUCH easier ways than using guano.

Saltpeter, one of the elements used in gunpowder, can be extracted from animal droppings. Apparently bird poop was more infamous in this regard than bat poop.
