It's to do with static built up by friction between your clothes & the upholstery. Worse if you wear nylon undies!

All you need do is hold a metal part of the door before you put your foot on the ground & the charge dissipates harmlessly.

Those so-called static strips are of no use whatseover, the charge is in you, not the car!

No, it won't cause an explosion.

When you exit the car, tap the door frame with the back of your hand to discharge the static. It won't hurt near as much. The chance of an explosion is pretty remote, but definitely possible.

Go to any motor accessory shop and buy a static discharger. They will tell you how to install it.

That kind of static is common in cars with synthetic upholstry. Ive never heard of anyone blowing up a petrol station as a result of it though.

maximum folk don't comprehend lots approximately static electrical energy. The static is in simple terms approximately certainly being generated via the friction between layers of your outfits and the motor vehicle seat. The charge isn't being performed away via the motor vehicle seat. Touching the metalwork earlier you get out would help yet you will desire to nonetheless get a ask your self as you try this. Your husband in all probability wears clothing made up of different factors, so any charge generated on his physique would be very small and performed away actual right down to the motor vehicle. seem on the stuff which all your outfits are made up of - alongside which incorporate your undies. Nylon, polyester and maximum different guy-made fibres are vendors to producing static electric costs whilst they're subject to any type of friction, even whilst mixed with cotton. undergo in suggestions that the motor vehicle seat is likewise an manmade fibre combination. Even your widely used physique movements which incorporate respiratory can create a charge between garment layers of many hundreds of volts. you will possibly no longer frequently notice of that via fact it is unable to producing sufficient contemporary (milliamps) to make even a small seen spark. that's worth finding at having your motor vehicle seat, and the seat belt, dealt with with an anti-static fluid. this might make it greater in a position to habit the charge away so as that it would not assemble on your physique. That way you will preclude the 'jolt' once you touch the door take care of. As a final motel you will desire to attempt taping a skinny bare cord to the interior floor of your seat belt. connect one end securely to the bodyshell for a physically powerful earth (e.g. wrapped around the seat belt securing bolt). This cord will habit away the static charge which you're making as quickly because it is generated. do no longer launch your belt untill when you have opened the door. in case you do it genuine and consistently positioned on your belt (of course you do) then I assure that the subject will flow away.

you can fit an anti static strip to the bottom of your car, most car accessory shops sell them, they basically run the static to earth so it doesn't build up.

Highly unlikely that the spark would cause an explosion, but not impossible
