I am 23 weeks pregnant and i had sex twice within the same menstrual cycle in October 2006. The first time some hours after sex on Oct 3 i felt a sharp pain for about 2 minutes in my abdoment. The second time on Oct 7 i had the pain again some hours after sex. Remember all this was within my fertile period. Does this means i have frantenal twins?

Possible, although ovulating twice, a few days apart, within the same cycle would be the exception rather than the norm. A multiple egg release usually happens at more or less the same time, or within a few hours, because if the sensitivity of the ovulation response to hormone levels. Were you on any type of fertility drugs or undergoing fertility treatment?

It is well possible that you could actually conceive at different times though - if you did release more than one egg, one could be fertilized straight away by a sperm that was there, ready and waiting from intercourse the day before - the other egg may hang about for a bit before being found and fertilized by a newly introduced sperm from a different act of intercourse the next day. This is how it is possible for fraternal twins to be conceived by different fathers if the mother has intercourse with two different men a few days apart.

I am not sure what a sharp pain a short time after sex would have to do with conception. Women cannot "feel" conception, since the egg and sperm are microscopically tiny - way too small to be felt by the mother. A fertilized egg is not attached to the mother in any way until it implants, about 10-14 days after fertilization.

The only way to tell whether your twins are truly fraternal (unless it is obvious - one if a girl and one a boy for example) when they are babies is via a DNA test, since if they are identical it is possible foe themto have different amniotic sacs, it depends on the timing of the egg splitting.

However, it is more likely you would be carrying fraternal twins as they are far more common, statistically speaking.

It is very possible that the woman was carrying to babies at the same time. However they are not twins. I personally have met with a lady that had this happen to her however she was married and the father was the same for both babies. 1 in every 100,000 women have what is called a split womb and some women will still get a period and ovulate after they are pregnant the numbers are very very slim but it does happen. The lady I am talking about delivered her first baby girl and then 2 months later gave birth to a little boy... He came a month early but was fine as they gave her shots to mature his lungs as they thought that he was going to be delivered at the time she had the first baby. However the contractions stopped and she was almost able to go full term...

Yes you can have twins conceived at different times. Watched a programme some time ago about a pair of twins. One was brown skinned and the other white skinned. Both had different fathers. Amazing.

Yes. I actually watched a programme last night and some of the information was amazing. Like your first answer suggested you can fall pregnant with twins or more and conceive them on different days, even by different men.. Madness!! Very, very rare though..

Fraternal twins do not have to be conceived at the same time, sometimes by different daddies.
