A flag is a symbol. Something someone designs in order to give or send a message to those looking for something to believe in. Our flag stands for the history that led up to it's creation. The things listed in the Constitution. People burn things to destroy them. Burning a flag says the person doing the burning no longer believes in it's purpose.

Personally I think that it is a matter of opinion. Why because you never know what this country has done to the people that feel like they should burn the flag. On the other hand how in the world could people have time to do such things, instead of trying to make what's wrong in their life right. Burning the flag is not going to fix the problem.

Why should Americans be the only one without
the right to burn the American Flag?

Yes, I can see that is a form of hate speech
and that all hate speech is bad - but we have many
things in society that are bad but we allow
them for the greater good.

Usually, one burns the flag because one hates
the government of the country is represents.
Personally, I think the United States government
is a big boy now, and can take care of its own.

That certain people choose to take it as a
personal affront (i.e. some veterans who used
the flag to rally around), is not the issue - they could
just well have chosen to rally around "Remember
the Gipper" or "Remember the Alamo".

Ultimately, you have a very steep hill to climb
Constitutionally to disallow someone to show
their opinion - and that's a good thing.
There's a reason that the first ammendment
is the first one.

If we had allowed a little more dissenting
opinion without labling people unpatriotic,
we might not have gotten into this latest
war.

And then maybe some of those same soldiers
might not be dying needlessly.

Thinking logically, flag burning should be against the law because it could cause a right old ruckus and/or many deaths in a violent riot. People have the power to change their country for the better, so instead of burning the flag they should try to make the flag an item to be prouder of.
On a bit of a tangent, flag burning probably isn't going to help with the Kyoto Protocol.

The flag and the symbol. when the flag has been claimed by only the military then yes they fought a good fight for it's honor. When the flag and all people share in a meaning for it, the meaning becomes different for each, It will reflect from the hearts of many as to the way we each hold it and that should not be denied in my opinion. The flag will always be the symbol as will the Eagle. When demonstrations are repelled it is a denial for any other people to give voice. It is a denial for unity a denial that others exist outside of those who claim the symbol for their own. the reasons they fought, or thought. or lived and died. The flag and the meaning are held in different ways.

I do not believe that the American Flag should be burnt, at this time, or up to this time. I admit though, if Bush is left in charge much longer, it will probably self-combust.

I believe in all rights granted by the Constitution, but burning the American flag is just plain rude, if you're a citizen. I'd say that non-citizens should be able to burn it and then citizens should be able to beat the crap out of them for doing so.

Of course not.

The military veterans of this country fought for what that flag represents. That flag stands for the freedom we all enjoy, and sometimes take for granted. Those men and women who fought for that flag, and that freedom, gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives. To burn the flag disrespects what the flag represents, and it disrespects those who gave their lives for it.

It is something to be respected, not defiled.

I think people should have the right, they are just showing how angry they are about that country. Besicaly there is nothing secret is going on. So we will see that we are hated, I should say the people who burn flags are very honest and there angers shows its not secret. Every country should do that so they know each other lol.
