There is a yoga pose that you can do that will actually help losen your hamstrings. You will need a strap or a belt for this.

The photo on the website can be a little but daunting. If your hamstrings are extremely tight, you will most likely have difficulty getting your leg to a 90 degree angle. Be patient and resist the temptation to pull your leg closer, you might strain a muscle. Always remember to breathe. Try doing this a couple of times a week (not everyday, give your hamstrings time to rest) and before you know it you'll probably get that leg vertical and perhaps even beyond. Good luck!
