Myth busted: The use of mobile phones at service (petrol) stations does not cause fires/explosions from fuel tanks and bowsers.

Static electricity is a cause of vehicles catching alight when passengers/drivers release "build up" of static electricty by touching the sides of the vehicle (when out of the vehicle) after sitting in their seats. The seats somehow conduct/produce static electricity.

I agree. In older cell phone models yes, the energy emanated from this devices was very strong, and harmful for our health and environment. These devices have reduced the amount of power generated during transmission, and therefore the probability of creating static electricity is remote. Nevertheless, we should not be using them in a gas station, since it is an electrical device, that may generate sparks and heat if malfunctioning, let's say that it falls on the ground and short circuit......that is dangerous...
