Yesterday my mature 12-year-old brother persuaded one of my friends to buy him a 16+ PS2 game - SOCOM 3 US Navy SEALs.

If anyone has got the game, I'd love to know whether you think the 16+ rating is a fair one, as I know sometimes the ratings on these games can be a little over-protective - but I also understand that the ratings are there for a reason.

As I said, my brother's very gentle, intelligent and mature - but he IS only 12...

My parents are wondering whether to allow him to play the game or not...

What sort of violence is in the game?

In your opinion, is it okay for a mature 12-year-old boy to play?

I have the game and have beaten it, as for a 12 year old I guess it depends on the boy. It does have violent war themes but its not very bloody or gory. However it is a tactical/strategic kind of game, not so much one you just run and gun. So, unless he's really patient I would not recommend it so much. Its my opinion but if I had a 12 year old I wouldn't recommend it, not so much for violence but for the terrorism themes and the like. To get the best experience out of the game it is time consuming methodical which I like and the online is fun too, but you get a lot of people cussing over the headset. You may check the game out yourself and rent it, but me personally I'd wait till he was older...then again I haven't met the kid. Hope this helps.

That's good to look out for your brother like that... The game isn't as violent as you would expect. There is normal war combat but no gore and stuff like that...

Try this site and watch the trailers and clips of the game to decide....
