You can view the source of the website you are on (in internet explorer you right-click and press view source; it's on the menu in firefox and safari). Then, find something that says "swf" in the source. In internet explorer you can press Ctrl-F to get a quick search box. The word "swf" will be part of a huge filename. Copy and paste it into the address bar so that you know it's the right file, then download the file.
In IE, you can download the file by going to this website:
javascript:document.write("hi")
But substitute "hello" for the thing that you ccopied and pasted.
Then, right-click on the word "hi" (hold on a Mac) and press save target as...
If you want to download a vid from youtube, however, go to http://www.keepvid.com/ and it takes a while to download but its worth it.
Voila!

You could try going to keepvid.com. keepvid.com asks you to put in the url to the video (if it is on youtube, then the url is on the right somewhere) and select youtube in the dropdown box or whatever video service your using. Then just click download.
When you download, MAKE SURE YOU PUT .flv AT THE END OF THE FILENAME. This makes it a flash file.
keepvid.com also has links to a flash video player and coverter. So you can covert or play the videos you download.

This is the easiest way to do that. Get Mozilla Firefox first. Then go to http://addons.mozilla.com and search & download "Download Embedded" (for embedded flash animations) and "VideoDownloader" (for Youtube or other video host sites videos). They are just easy to use and you use no other software so you'll have no problems using it.
