Yes, if my office is anything to go by, desks are disgusting and also the cleaners are totally inept!
I buy packs of those anti-bac multi surface wipes and wipe my desk and phone down every other day. Its important to clean your phone as there are lots of germs in there and think how close it gets to your mouth and ears!!! If you cant find anti bac wipes, buy a dettol spray and a pack of j-clothes so that you can wipe down to the same effect. Try not to eat at your desk, that increases dirt and particles. I also recommend pushing your IT team/facilities to clean your keyboard professionally as often as possible. In the meantime, unplug it, tip it upside down and shake it over the bin to get rid of bits of dirt and dust. Good luck at keeping your desk germ-free! I started doing this a few months ago and now everyone in my team is obsessed, we take it in turns to buy the wipes!

Keep antibacterial wipes in your desk. This will kill germs on your keyboard and mouse and phone. Lysol spray works too. In addition to your efforts, leave a note for the janitorial staff to wipe off your phone and desk. They usually use a good germicide in their work. Don't forget to thank them with a small token of appreciation.

If the surface is resistant to bleach then I'd suggest using this as it will also kill fungal spores. I've worked in microbiology labs before and we used a 70% ethanol spray and lint free wipes.
Oh those days of getting high off living in a cloud of ethanol... then driving home - sure I must have been over the legal limit!!!

You can get an air purifier which removes 99.something% of bacteria/dust termites from the air. You can also get some sort of wipes for the desk.

Clean with a part bleach solution, kills 99.99% of bacteria. You're likely to never get rid of them all.

Sterilise your cleaning cloths too - can be assisted with a microwave oven's power on your things.

Good luck! Rob

You can buy packs of anti bacti wipes, a bit like baby wipes from supermarkets all you do is swish them over. I use them for baby toys.

Unless you're working in food-service, don't be neurotic. Normal damp dusting is sufficient.
