Aesthetically, it is supposed to be perfectly proportioned. It is supposed to follow the guidelines of the canon. I.E.- 8 heads tall, 2 heads across, etc.

I'm sorry to say that Michelangelo's David does very little for me at all, I far prefer Donatello's version.

The most aesthetic thing about Michelangelo's David I think is the formation of the stomach muscles, but what I find most impressive is the size of marble block that was used.
