In a way email is faster but not many people realise it. for simple messages, messenger will be faster, but the person will have to be online, and for transfering of a file you can only get it from them as fast as they can upload it. where as email sends it through your isp servers so once it is uploaded the reciever can download the email at the rate of thier download speed.

instant messenger is quicker if the person you need to speak to is online at the time. if they person is not, than email is much quicker. You usually have to sit and wait for that particular person to come online, and sometimes it could be hours of time spent sitting infront of your machine.
Its also easier to send someone an email if your in a hurry. I.M. usually tends to get people caught up in conversations (much like the telephone), where as an email is more for a quick conversation.
I.M. is really alot more personal because it can be like having a conversation on the phone and it can be so much quicker in response time.
it really is up to what you need to tell people, if they are available, and the time constraints.
both have pros and cons

An instant messenger can be well defined as an software that creates a real-time session between two contact messengers. It gives an opportunity to send instant messages, with instant replies. Leaving no space for long waiting.

Whereas e-mails for defined as electronic mails were came into existence of exchanging mails/letters from people to different parts of the world. Its basic theme was to eliminate physical letters which took days reaching from one place to another. However e-mails take from 1sec to 10 minutes to reach to its destination.

However the improvement in communication came, emails got advantage of exchanging files too, where this improvement was later implemented on IM too. So the basic difference left on IM is that apart for waiting to wait for the reply, an real-time communication brings the picture of the person sitting in front of us. Where as also the facility of exchanging messages in real-time simultenously to multiple contacts cannot be done to extent in e-mails. Emails need individual composing, plus it consumes more time.

Hope it answers.

Much Quicker.

If the other person is online it will go to them instantly.

If they are not online it is best to use email. Although nowadays you can now deliever offline messages which means the receiver will receive the message when he or she next logs on.

You will require Yahoo Messenger or MSN to be able to use IM.

Hope this helps

Instant messenger is exactly what the name implies! You type a message to another person who is online and they see the message!

i.m is quicker because you can see when your friends are online and then talk to them. but if you e-mail, then it sends it offline and then only when your friend opens their inbox they can see that.
