This is an awakening call for the Australians. Besides that Australia is testing its bench strength. Five key players are not in the team (Ricky, Gili, M Clarke, Lee & Symonds). Australia will bounce back with venom.

Good luck to Australian supporters though I'm going to do my bit to make sure you guys feel miserable throughout the World Cup on Yahoo Answers at least (lol)
I have high hopes pinned on India because I am saying with all my conviction - there's a resurgence and revival in team spirit and that will take us a long way
also, we have to avenge last World Cup defeat from Australia - it came very close to us and you took it away - but not this time

Sure, I'd still have them as favourites. The win will do NZ the power of good though. The real tournament won't start till April anyway, when the Super 8s get under way!

They have a good chance but it's gonna be a tough competition coz teams like NZ,India,Pakistan,Sri lanka,South africa(most probably to win the world cup)
They all have a bit of a better chance than Australia.

No they won't win again, I will support any team who plays them cause I hate Australia. NZ on the other hand is a tough team especially for South Africa.

Fancy a sth African(tony h) calling an Aussie arrogant-cheeky,i think we are still good enough given a bit of luck which every side needs to win a big tournament,
this loss won't "shut us up" as it was basically a b team that played in N.Z in a warm up for the real thing.

good question mate...
Australia is a very strong outfit. Their main weapon is their mental strenght. today NZ played great but u have to remember that Aussies were without their key players but i am taking anything away from Shane Bond. The way he bowled today could have rattled any batting lineup. Now NZ may not be favourite in the WC according to my list but they have the habit of surprising big teams in the WC. My list goes like this...
1 Sri Lanka
2SA
3Pakistan
4Australia
5West Indies
good luck to aussies...they r one of my favourite,,,,

On any a particular day any team can beat any team. But Australia's performance over a longish period has been excellent and way above the rest. Their consistency gives them the edge and one should remember the world cup is a 2 month long tournament and the winner will have to play well over that period.

I am English ... however ... form may be inconsistant, class is permanent. This World Cup in my eyes Australia are still favorites, lets face it, both the captain and vice-captian didnt play in the game vs NZ.
Next World Cup may be a different story, they will have a young inexperianced team then.
By the way Tasha ... You think Scotland can win then ?
