I have several years experience in the hospitality industry where I planned and coordinated many events. I would love to do this on a contract basis for different companies or groups where I could travel to the different events.

There are several special interest groups that have these types of meetings. In the environmental field: CleanGulf.org, National Ground Water Association, many branches of EPA, state manufacturing associations, NREP, CHMM, etc.

The thing about this is that many of these organizations have a full time staff that do nothing but plan annual meetings across the globe. That would mean that you would have to work more efficiently and less expensive than the full time staff member.

What does this mean? If you live in Chicago, Dallas, or Vegas, then you could contract your services to the groups that are meeting there. As a local, you would be able to coordinate for them.

Having said that, as a planner for meetings in my area, getting conventions planned and put together is not that difficult of a job. It can be done without having to visit the venue (in places like Vegas, Chicago, Orlando, etc). It is more fun to go these places.

Good Luck.
