Hockey IS a game of imtimidation. A team can play bigger and more agressively when they know there is someone who can and will take care of the other teams bullies. The Pens need an enforcer. When you have argueably the best forward in the game today you need the best enforcer. George Laraque would clear any lanes on the ice in Pittsburgh. Sid the Kid would roam free just like Gretz did with Dave Semenko riding shotgun.

I think it would be useless to get a 'big guy' on the ice. We could put this into football terms Willie Parker weighs only 13 pounds more than Sid and their height is within an inch so Sid is a big kid. Then you have other people on the ice for the Pens such as Colby Armstrong and Maxime Talbot that can out fight pretty much anyone in the league. To get muscle and forfeit our penguins talent would be like having the a/c on in Alaska.

Sid doesn't need an enforcer.
Moreover, the Penguins don't have a place on the team for some cromagnant who takes up roster space doling out hits but doesn't contribute on the scoreboard.
While Crosby doesn't drop the gloves, he's not a perimeter player nor does he shy away from contact. As long as the team plays as cohesively has they have of late, they should be fine.
Malone, Whitney, Armstrong, and more recently Petrovicky have all stepped up and made it clear there will be hits exchanged if teams single out Sid.
Bottom line -- muscle not need, or wanted.

You can say enforcers are a waste of space till the cows come home, but in reality if you want a star to have a long career he's going to need protection. It allows them to focus on what they do best...produce. Losing your star player 6-8 weeks for a broken hand to protect himself is a losing situation. Can Sid handle himself Im sure he can. But should he have to is the bigger question. Theres a list of guys you could throw in there...but I think what would be best would be a defenseman to fill the role. They need the grit at the blue line anyways.

I think they should try to get Jordan Tootoo as his bodyguard. I think he's still in the minors for conditioning but the man's got tons of potential that would fit the Penguins rebuild right now. Also, he's Canadian so that would work well with Crosby, Staal, and Fleury on the chemistry level. But I don't think Nashville wants to do any more deals for the time being.

The problem is when someone like Jason Blake is deliberatly trying to injure a star player. You absolutely need someone out there to protect Crosby or any leading scorer.
To put it simply, as long as there are teams out there sending goons after your star players, then you are going to need your own goon to protect them.
Petrovicky definately proved he can fight on that one. But my guess is the knockout was mostly luck. It was a nice fight though. I'm just glad Newbury wasn't badly hurt.

They don't need an enforcer as much as they need a new arena! Those PA politicians better give Super Mario & Company what they want, or that team will be playing in Kansas City, Houston, or Oklahoma City next season!

Sorry guy. The Penguins should not trade anyone "for muscle". They have a great young team, alot of stamina and promise...Sidney is a Big Boy. He's not a "small" player, he should relish the hit, take it and still make that shot. If he doesn't like to be hit though, he shouldn't chirp.

With the new rules and the way the team is building offence there is no need to waste a spot on the roster for this purpose.

With someone as good as Sid, his whole team is the enforcer. And he's not a pretty boy either, he'll stand up for himself, he already does verbally.
