Help with tuning sat box / tv / with new comb video/dvd. What do scart leads do different from normal leads?

New DVD/video seems to take over the TV every time its switched on !

Don't use the SCART connectors and cables. Instead, use the other cables.

The SCART system attempts to link all the components together with a single control system. Your TV obviously is responding to commands from the DVD unit, which you can eliminate by using all the old-fashioned cables.

I have the same situation with a new combo VCR/DVD recorder connected to my new LCD TV using an HDMI cable. There are some things I can't do until I turn the VCR/DVD recorder off.
