spiral,the universe expands that way

IMHO, humans are incapable of comprehending terms like "infinite" and "forever" and "universal". The galaxy, as large as it is, is only microscopic in the grand scheme of the universe, which (contrary to our laws of physics), is said to be infinite. But the fact is....nobody really knows for sure. Seeing is believing, and we just can't see that far. But then, if space is transparent, how far can we see in a narrow field of view, before our vision is obstructed? Could one tiny featureless black spec in the sky be an unobstructed view to the ends of space? Probably not, as there are gases and astroids and comets and even light, constantly moving up there. One should also consider, that "minuteness" (getting smaller) is just as infinite as the expanse of the never ending universe. Our minds are just not geared for such equations. I better check myself, before I wreck myself : )

When you look as far as you can see through a telescope, you see galaxies as they were roughly 15 billion years ago. Their light has taken that long to reach us. Now if there's anything further than that, it's light would not have had time to reach us, since the universe as we see it is 15billion years old. You get it?
There is no reason to suspect the universe is finite. Quite the contrary...

Our galaxy, which is known as the Milky Way Galaxy, is big but it is not endless. It is a flat disc about 100,000 light years across, and about 1,000 light years in thickness, except at the centre, where it is thicker.

I could probably apply the distance formula d=rt .

You see, I can say a prayer and know it's been received faster than the
speed of light travels. so it's not only a "small world" it's really a ...
"small universe"
