Like Mark DeRosa, who can play about five positions,do they have their own gloves or would they borrow a glove, since you can't use the same glove for every position.Last year,Henry Blanco, the Cubs back-up catcher, played a few games at first base.Does he have his own first baseman's glove or did he have to borrow one?

Rich Aurilia played every infield position last year except catcher. He takes a SS glove, 3B glove and 1B glove with him on the road but if called on to play OF he borrows a glove.

Some players know they may be called to play different positions so they carry equipment for all of them, others don't so they borrow. The teams sometimes carry spares also in case one breaks mid game or they need to make a swap for some reason.

If they regularly play multiple positions, they'll usually have their own glove of each type. (Though not always - in a recent interview, Freddy Sanchez of the Pirates admitted that he stole Jack Wilson's gloves when he needed to play shortstop.) If it's a one-off kind of thing or they weren't expecting the possibility of playing that position in the game (such as an emergency catcher handling a couple of innings when the 1st and 2nd stringers are taken out), they would have to borrow a glove.

Most players like DeRosa have a glove for any position they might play. If they fill in for an emergency they might borrow one.
