Does anyone know if I need planning permission to put a static caravan as tempary accomodation for a farm worker and family on my farm?

I'm pretty sure you don't as this is not a permanent addition to your property.

You can call and speak to a planning officer to discuss it without any obligation though so I would suggest doing that, they are really helpful and will give you guidance about your specific case.

Yes you do need to get permission. If you don't and somebody complains you will be forced to evict your farm worker immediately and you will face a very hefty fine.

You also need to make sure the dwelling is NOT blocking any footpaths. As a farmer near me had to pay a £50,000 fine PLUS legal fees - his own AND the Councils.

Yes, it will be ancilliary residential accommodation. There'll also be a visual and conservation aspect to be considered too. In my experience it is unlikely that an application for planning permission will be granted. If you were to go ahead with it without PP, you could be fined up to £20000. So it's probably a good idea to check with your local planning authority who'll be able to provide you with (free) site specific advice on this matter.
