same reason as why some are academically inclined and others are not. We all have something that we excel in more so that other things. Some are athletic while others are not, some are real go getters while some are lazy as can be. Its hard to say exactly why it is the way it is. Only thing I can think of is that if we were all mechanically inclined than we would never need the help of those that are also mechanically inclined. Society only works because we cant all be mechanically inclined . Some become contractors and laborers while others become investors and bankers , while others become doctors and lawyers.

Genetic make up. If generations in your family tree have followed one form of profession, the genes get moulded accordingly. This is why the caste structure itself formed in our Indian culture which is over 4000 years, or should I say 10000 years old . If you are mechanically minded, you will see some chain in your ancestry in that or a similar profession, like it was in soldiering and other professions.
