On the one hand we see kids who are constantly linked to the information superhighway on almost every concievable level, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if in a few years we start seeing grade school kids getting into identity theft and rich Somalian widow e-mail scams just for kicks. On the other hand, they're growing up in a world of mind-numbing media like Spongebob Squarepants and an academic system of ever-lowering standards. Are kids today getting smarter or dumber?

Lifestyles among parents with children differ. We must look at demographics. Working-class parents, double income families, usually have little or no time to deal with their children. Families with an arrangement of only one spouse working tend to have smarter children. This is based on the number of words a child hears an hour by a loving parent. As research has been conducted, there is no evidence that words from a caretaker benefit the child. This is most crucial during the first eight years of life. A child by the age of four has already reached 50% of their total adult intellectual capacity, and by the time they are 8, they have reached 80%. I do believe that technology will play a big part in the future generations. However, I believe there will be positive and negative results. For example, I'm sure you can remember your favorite book as a child. Do you remember the pictures? Remember how plain they were? Just a few simple colors. Compare these pictures to your children's books today. These flashy colors take children's attention away from the words and this contributes to attention deficit disorder. Dumber, people used to have to type on a typewriter, no mistakes, no spell check, nowadays kids test scores are down cause they can't conjugate, spell or grammar(sic) properly.
