I want to go one day without smoking. Usually I smoke a pack a day. So today I want to try not to smoke..some kind of a test...to go one day without it... Anyway, I'm tempted at the moment, I'm flipping one in my fingers...

What do you do?

Anything else. The physical addiction is real but the time you spend doing the smoking is a problem also. I know I've done it. Get a hobby or something to fill all that time...it really is a lot of time and it free's you to do other things, just have to find those other things. Read, do puzzles, crosswords and others like wordfind. Read magazines, start planning for a garden or flowers for the spring and order seeds to plant. Get catalogs ordered for that. Go to the library and get books to just look at like history with photos. Maybe an old hobby that you used to enjoy like painting or drawing, model cars, anything to keep the mind and hands busy. It will help, I promise. do not give in, be strong and you will feel sooo much better in about 3 mos. Also, the money you save will pay for your new hobby and more. Plus you'll live longer and healthier and be able to enjoy life with air in your lungs. foe every year stop smoking it adds two to your life. The bad effects are gone after about 4 yrs. if you haven't done permanent damage. you may get sick, a cold cough thing, the body will have to get rid of all the junk in the lungs somehow ans this is usually the way, I know most people do, so do not give up. Be Strong and be determined!!! You can do it.

Is it Oscar Wilde who wrote:"The best way of resisting temptation is to yield to it" Well, flippancy aside, temptations are difficult to overcome and that is why they are called temptations. We need a lot of will power and I found that that is easier said than done!

However, Reiki and Bach Flowers are reputed to help. To know more about them, ask.

as someone else who's trying to quit, i've found that if i'm craving one too badly, I can sometimes avoid it by chewing on a piece of gum or (since it's late) going to sleep. i was a two-pack-a-day smoker and it's mainly just a test of will. you have to force yourself to not want it.

The mind is powerful. Your will is weak. Make up your mind and don't turn back. It is your will against an inanimate object. Exercise your will.
