Pain is the after effect of passion, in my opinion. Like a ripple. Ever love someone so much it hurts?

I completely agree. Pain is different for each person. I can dislocate a hip and it doesn't hurt (I have a collagen syndrome, makes all my joints dislocate) but my husband dislocates his hip (old bull riding injury) and he's in excruciating pain. On the other hand, his birth mother can call trying to guilt him using all kinds of ways right down to telling him she doesn't love him anymore, but he's so used to it, it's not painful emotionally to deal with her anymore - but when my mother calls and pulls guilt trips on me, I'm in tears.

So yes - not every pain hurts. I guess having joints that dislocate and sublux constantly really lets me understand this. In fact, I used to know someone who when she got stressed out, she would literally begin pulling her hair out in clumps. It didn't hurt her, but to me I cringe at the thought. It all depends on the person whether something is going to be painful or not. It's why I live by the ideal that "Pain is relevant".

not every pain hurts, when something you've nurtured no longer requires your constant attention that pain doesn't hurt, when a child goes to school for the first time that pain doesn't hurt, when a young woman leaves her father at the wedding altar to join her husband that pain doesn't hurt.

What's that on your nose? The end of a cliff? Pain consists of hurt, neither exists without the other.

that is a really interesting question, it is by definition that every pain hurts right?? I think there is a kind of pain that doesn't, it sort of gives pleasure.. like those masochists who love to hurt themselves physically but get gratification from it.. maybe there are more kinds of favorable pains, but i think it exists yes

I don't agree. Pain is pain. The thing is do you enjoy the pain?

If "not every pain hurts" then that which doesn't hurt, isn't really called "pain"...it's called something else...now isn't it...=P

But that has a nice, poetic flow to it...
