He was allowed to voice his opinion. No one censored him. He can say whatever he wants to and he did. However, the NBA, a private business, has every right to decide who they have representing them and they had the right to kick Hardaway out of that program.
He apologized because most of the country is tolerant of gay people if not completely accepting of homosexuality. He also apologized because he knew that the image-conscious NBA would cut ties with him and he didn't want to lose the money and opportunities that he would get by being associated with the league after retirement.
So Haradaway used his right to free speech and freedom of expression. The NBA exercised their legal rights when they cut ties with him. No one's rights were violated, denied or infringed in this situation. Timmy just said something stupid. He should have just kept his mouth shut and he'd still have his job with the NBA.

Freedom of speech yes, but wrong. like calling Tim the N-word. Is calling someone the N word freedom of speech? Tim should remember what his family went through back in the day. Leave the Gays alone. Only judge yourself....

Well yes Tim Hardeway should but he wasn't because now he cant get a job in the NBA again and that sucks. so freedom of speech is obviously bulls***! However he shouldn't judge how others want to live their lives it makes your own life more difficult. As tim Hardeway found out the hard way. he doesn't care though because he is a millionaire

There's a difference between free speech and saying stuff that are horrible things to say. If a white guy said that he didnt want to play with any African Americans on his team, and said that he hated African Americans and called them n words, we would call him a racist and be ready to put him in jail. I dont see how Hardaways comments differ.

it's tim hardaway... while he may be entitled with his opinion, i think it's not smart for him to say it in public... it's totally unnecessary.
the minute people started complaining, he had to issue an apology. he should not have said that in the first place if he will apologise.

He is certainly entitled to his opinion, but it doesn't mean he should be offensive and blare it over the airways to millions of people. If it isn't enough that he gets paid millions of dollars to dribble a basket ball around, then he should tuck in his weiner and go "work" elsewhere.
