I am seeking the contact information for a business called 'Tropical School Photographics' who took a lot of class photos for schools in the Mackay (QLD, Australia) region during the early 1990s.

Granted, this business may longer exist but I was hoping someone out there may know more than I do of their whereabouts and/or history.

I have tried searching under the business name but to no avail.

Thanks heaps!

I am a professional commercial photographer in Texas --- U S A
I have no clue as to the people you are searching for BUT
thought I might give you something here that you might be able to go on with some results (??) In the states we have a professional organization known as the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and they keep exceptionally good records of their membership !!
All of this is to say--- check around where you are for a similar organization there in Australia--- I'll bet my boots that you have one--- if so-- there is a good chance these people either have or have had a membership with them--- and if that be the case it may be a perfect way for you to finally get some info on where they may be or the story that can be told of where they might have gotten to !!

Good luck with all of this--- and I hope you find who you're looking for !!! Gooday mate !!!

Ah yes, travel the world, photograph the beautiful things and people, live la dolce vita and get paid for it. Only if you work for a magazine that's willing to send you on those kinds of assignments, OR if you spend your own money to travel there, shoot the shots, and hope someone will buy them. Otherwise, you'll end up in a studio somewhere, doing portraits and weddings, and maybe an occasional commercial shoot. I would have suggested that you find a school back in the days when you had to learn darkroom technique if you really wanted to learn photography, but no one uses film any more, so that's gone forever. If you do find your way to the art directors and photo buyers of this world the only thing they care about is DID YOU GET THE SHOT? They couldn't care less which school you went to, or if you graduated in the top five percent of your class. They only want to see your work. If you have pictures they want, they'll buy them from you. It's as simple as that. Get a degree in accounting instead. Keep taking pictures, and get yourself on the school newspaper staff and the yearbook staff to gain actual assignment experience. Start sending prints to the photo editors of magazines and ask both their opinion and if you can perhaps do an assignment for them. If you live near New York City go see these people. Ad and talent agencies, too.

Initially try to Google the business name. You can ask some of the teachers, that were there at the time, they might know or have heard something. Ask some of the students, from that period, sometimes one of them might have seen the photographer, in a place where he could be located. Try your local town hall, and see if they have any records of the business, if it was registered. Try the school, or the school administration department, and see if they have any records pertaining to the business.
