I noticed it before but for some reason REALLY noticed it this evening.
The blandest, most innoucuous question responded too with even blander answers.....

But why take the time and what the motivation?

I can see it for dumb answers or wrong answers, but you are right.

One reason is points strategy. If your phantom is going to answer the question by giving everyone a thumbs down when I come along to vote, sorted by highest ranked answers (which I do) their answer is more likely to appear first. Very low strategy.

Sometimes you give questions your best shot and get a thumbs down or worse - reported. Didn't even realize it is a strategy to get points! Must be slow as well as stupid. I feel that some questions are statements looking for like-minded supporters. If you have a different view...thumbs down.

That's a hurtful way to get points, and I've had my answers 'downed', even ones i thought were my best have been 'downed'.. i didn't understand why, ..until i thought about what your question is about.

It cleared up my uncertinty...
