moderate alcohol consumption ( no more than 1-2 drinks per day for males) is supposed to help lower b.p.. Red wine is especially good for that, as opposed to beer or spirits.

Too much booze can make the heart work overtime, can clog the arteries (even at 30), and is basically unhealthy. It does affect your BP and will make it shoot through the roof. It also has a lot of sugar in it & can cause diabetes & heart failure. But, if you limit your drinks to one or two a day, that is actually medicinal. It reduces stress. Sounds like you have some major issues. Your BP is way too high! I had a similar past with drinking and drug use & I now have diabetes, high BP, arthritis, and a few other things because of my lifestyle. I just had a minor stroke & I'm young. My vision is steadily being lost. I used to be a very active sportsman--very good in sports, etc. but I found too much pleasure in being a party animal and the guy with the lamp shade on his head, dancing on table tops. If you need counseling please get it, A slow death is not worth it if you are drinking excessively. I know all about Rx changes, too. I've had many--I take 14 pills daily just to live. Don't end up like me! Don't use alcohol, if you are, to cure anything.

First of all, a BP of 180 over 115 should put you immediately in the emergency department. Your chances of a stroke are incredibly high with pressure like that. With that said, at least you are on medication and hopefully you are getting that straightened out.

Follow this link I have listed below. There will be discussion of the latest research on blood pressure and alcohol use. None of it is good, as far as drinking goes.

A good rule of thumb is, if you have hypertension, especially as severe as yours apparently is, you need to stay away from the booze, permanantly. Best of luck.

Alcohol doesn't help anything in your body really.

In my personal experience, if you want to lower your blood pressure, you should work on it naturally. It's always the best way.

Exercise at least 3 x a week, drink plenty of water, get your rest, and eat your vegetables and fruit every day.

It sounds simple right? It is.

At 30 your bp is so high..... I hope you can bring it down.

Good luck with it!

Moderate alcohol use, like one glass of wine a day, is good for your heart. Being an alcoholic will raise your blood pressure and make you need drugs like atenlol to prevent a heart attack or stroke.

Its most likely the drugs more than anything. They throw your chemistry out of balance so your system tries to make up for it. Check into the side effects of the drugs they have you on. I have tree full bottles of three different kinds sitting on my dresser that I wont touch. I already learned my lesson.
