Because they don't understand you. How many times have you judged someone based on appearance? It's something that all humans do, whether you can admit it or not, and it' pretty unfortunate! I can honestly admit that I've judged people because of there appearance, and I've been wrong. I try not to, but I'm sure people judge me just the same.

No, but my looks do not reflect my ancestry. I have been harassed by other women because of their own anger and contempt for others. I feel that is a choice, because I leave them alone or treat them well. Some people attract the wrong types. I have all my life, really against my will. It can just be an aura or attitude about you, the way you carry yourself.
I am all for the person on the street who wants to approach me in a friendly matter. It was these troublemakers with nothing better to do-at college when I was there, at work, in staff accommodations, other people's friends-who were a problem. These days I pick my own friends and prefer to write poetry, journals and paint in my spare time. I will go on car trips in the summer.

it sucks but it's not just people we treat differently people have a natural fear of the unknown which is why we kill or make fun of things we dont understand. like if a tarantulla randomly popped up u would get scared and probably squish it. It doesn't know what it did or why it's going to die it's just trying to get from point Ato point B. The same things go for people we get stepped on mentally by other people because we look a certain way wither we are a different race, religion, crippled, gay, or straight peole always judge and squash people mentally it's not right but thats the way the world is and A wise man/woman once said lifes A B@#$!

Hi Legend!!!
You know that I always think about that ??? But I also know the answer. And that is...... society!!!!
Society control every aspect of the way a community behaves. And if society accepts one action the first time, is more like it that, that same action will stay embeded in society.
Society rules, but who are the members of society??? Well all people should be counted, right??? NO! Wrong!!!
And there is where problem starts. Society, in a community or country usually is ruled by the ones that have the money!!!!
And money people, choose what is cool and what is not, what is acceptable and what is not!!!
I had an experience not long ago, in a very elegant rastaurant.
I went there with some friends, we went on a trip. while we were about to leave, a friend of mine spilled, water on the table, as she was getting up!!
The waitress, quickly came to dry and clean. But in my nature of doing things myself, I started drying and cleaning it myself!!
The waitress, quickly asked me to lease stop, as if her manager see me cleaning she will have a problem.
I told her no, and I continued, telling her if he comes trying to make trouble for u I'll speak to him. She told me that, I was the only person that had treated her, like a "person", with respect in a situation like that. And she continued to tell me that a lot of people, will be very rude to her, everyday!!!
My answer to her was, this people, are missingthe whole point, because if the waitresses weren't working there, we would NOT be able to have the wonderful service. And just because they are working as waitresses, that doesn't make them less than people.
On the contrary, makes them better because they are the ones who clean the messes that some rich, filthy and rude so call society people leaves behind!!!
Is like they say "MONEY TALKS", but some times what it says, it's not worth listening!!!
GOD BLESS YOU & HAPPY LIFE
A.Z.

Because 99% of people judge you based on how you look, sound, and appear to act to them because it satisfies they're emotions and don't think logically. Like for example, if they got offended by an angry fat person before, and your fat, they may believe your angry and offensive.
If their a woman who had a few bad boyfriends, a bad father, and their friends always talk trash about men, when they meet you they may assume your a jerk, and assume all men are the same.
If their a guy who met a few sexist female feminists, and your a women who's a feminist, he may assume your a sexist bigot too. Maybe your not even a corrupt feminist, but because you look like the woman who was, he may judge you the same anyway.
If their a woman who's met two short guys with a temper, macho behavior, and huge ego, and they meet you who happens to be short, they may assume your an a*ss before you even open your mouth.
People are stupid, thats why.
And it goes this way too: If your a pretty white blond chick, society has programmed most people to believe that you look innocent and sweet, and so you ARE innocent and sweet. So no matter how evil you may be, those people assume that you can do no wrong anyway.
Or, if your a tall handsome guy with a smart looking face along with an intelligent sounding voice, and you dress in suits, most poeple are programmed to believe your an incredible person. You don't even have to say anything intelligent, they assume your grand anyway, which ofcourse those same people assume if you look the opposite of that, that your dumb, even though you could be the smartest, kindest person in the room.
Again, people are stupid.

Mostly fear. We have a tendency to fear what is different or strange to us. We perceive as threatening things we don't understand. So if a person is different from us, they present something we may not understand. This is frightening, which causes us to react with the classical fight or flight response. Incidentally, this works not only for individuals but for governments as well. Look at us.

if people look different and act different then they are different. i don't treat a dog the same way i treat a cat.
or... would you rather be stereotyped? its a lose, lose situation.
if you're talking about a disability thats just lack of social knowledge, what to do what not to do, where to look.

Its ignorance. Ignorance isn't a bad thing...staying ignorant is. Also...when people see something that is different from what they're used to....it looks "weird" or out of order. We as a people have to step out of the box and try to have a higher level of intelligence and tolerance.
