These were the key reasons Arafat rejected the offer:

1. Israel maintained control of Palestinian airspace.
2. Israel controlled in flow of goods and services to the Palestinians, and thus disrupting the Palestinian economy.
3. Israel refused to pull out off the illegal settlements it built on Palestinian territories.
4. The Palestinian territories that Israel controlled were rich in natural resources. Most notably water.

The Palestinians want their own sovereign state, that doesn't have the influence of Israel.

You know the roads that Israel builds on Palestinian territory? The Israelis don't allow the Palestinians to use the road, not even cross it. Do you consider that normal? Is that not a form of apartheid?

It is not the Palestinians that are blocking Israel's right to a proper life, it is Israel that's blocking the Palestinians right to a proper life.

It appears the life and times of Yasser Arafat was more about personal wealth, than peace.

Peace should be a mandate, not an option!

i'm no longer Palestinian, yet i did no longer like him. I felt like he did no longer make a contribution lots to the Palestine reason, too busy attempting to get human beings to do it. possibly his intentions have been solid, however the actuality that he submitted to Israel, and then have been given a slap on the face for it, become incredibly pathetic. Plus, all those memories of hundreds of thousands being cutting-edge in his account, suspicious. yet in any case, Allah Yar7ama wa Esam7a

Guess he learned from his mistakes...In 1993 ,after the Oslo accord, the PLO recognized Israel's right to exist in the borders form 1967,renouncing at a major part of the Palestinian land...He got nothing in return...So I guess he didn't want to make the same mistake twice...

Because he knew that if true peace were to occur, he'd have no more power over the Palestinians, and some would start to wonder about the funds he embezzled (estimated at over a billion dollars by Forbes).

He sacrificed the peace potential for his people in favour of his own greed for power and possibly the demands of Palestian terrorist groups. That's why you can't achieve freedom and/or democracy by means of terror. Terror is a self-perpetuating evil.
