There are distinct tonal differences between every make of guitar. Music is an expensive venture. My rule of thumb is that if you can't tell the difference, then perhaps you shouldn't waste your money, yet. Although it is great fun to start off with the best money can buy, I have always felt that it is important to understand your gear intimately. Know all of its limitations and strengths. Perhaps, there will come a time when you will choose a Yamaha over a Gibson because it has a certain "sound" that you are looking for. The important thing is to get an instrument that you can master and then move from there. Who knows? You may decide on a Fender after all.

Yes.

The sound of an electric guitar is affected mostly by the pickups, but also slightly by the shape, size, and what kind of wood.

You could put humbuckers or Alnicos in a Yamaha and make it sound more like a Gibson, but it won't be the same.

The differences between electric guitars tend to involve the hardware and the electronics (and the wood they're made from . Single coil pickups are great for a vintage sound, but 'humbucking' pickups are louder and less prone to hum (hence the name); guitars without tremolos such as the Telecaster stay in tune for longer than guitars with tremolos, such as the Stratocaster; heavy metal guitars often feature 'locking trems' that enable you to bend strings down several notes and spring back up again, and so on. As with acoustics, you can also get 12-string models - and again, they're great if you want a jangly guitar sound but expect to pay a lot more than for a standard six-string. Twelve-string electric guitars are also very, very heavy.

Well if i know one thing about guitars it is that gibson is one of the best brands while yamaha is a lot lower quality. But remember it is not the guitar it is the performer who makes the difference.
