because for a long time most americans didn't think about where their oil was voming from. it was just there. and many americans still think so. and those who perhaps realize the new situation are mostly so stuck in their old way of thinking "the oil's there, and that's all that matters" that bthey simply ignore the political and economical problems oil industries is facing.

Mr. King, love your hat. American's are in denial because they do not care to know or understand that this is the signs of the last days. All has to come to pass, regardless of who is President. And it will, no one can stop it. As for as being doomed regarding gas and achieve extreme oil conservation program, through higher gas taxes, your right.

I'm not in denial. You have been misled by liberal teachers who hate American freedom. When I was in the 4th grade my teacher, a liberal Demonrat, told us there was only enough natural gas in the world for 10 more years, and then it would all be gone. This worried me because my mom used a gas stove and I wondered how we could cook without gas.
Now, over 30 years after my liberal teacher said we only had 10 years worth of gas, I cooked dinner tonight on a gas stove.
Never believe a liberal. They are like Chicken Little, always saying the sky is falling when it's really just a drop of rain...

Gas taxes would harm the poor. We need to find alternatives not just conserve. Everything we buy uses oil to get it made. From getting the workers and the materials to the factories to delivering the products to the distributor then to the stores. We need to have something like the Manhattan project in World War II or like what NASA has done for aerospace development. We need to develop energy storage like batteries and Hydrogen containment to make vehicles safe when using Hydrogen fuel. We need to make alternative energy sources affordable for everyone. You are right this is huge. We as humans won't do anything until we have to and that day is coming.

That wouldn't do it. That would just cause more problems. Significantly higher food, clothing, and shelter costs. More welfare, higher Federal budget. And oil is only part of the problem. Our culture is a big part of the problem.

You should avoid speaking in absolutes like "the only way to achieve this..."
There's plenty of other ways to achieve things. For example, we could just kill off a whole bunch of people we don't like. Let's try cutting the world's population from 6 billion down to about 4.
Coincidentally, I believe there are about 2 billion Muslims worldwide. Just a suggestion ;^)

why not get the oil companies to pay more taxes on the obscenity they call profit? why should it just be the little guy who pays the price of oil profiteering?
what we need is an old fashioned gas war. i've seen them before and the price of gas was as low as $.10/gal, ten cents a gallon.
who's getting rich? not the people you whom want to pay higher gas taxes. but the owners of the oils companies.

Why do you keep asking the same stupid question? If you wish to pay higher taxes more power to you but personally I think I'm taxed too much.
