The big differences are cultural and language. This is from the Roman influence of the 1st century. At one point the tribes of Germany and Scandinavia shared basically the same language and culture, but as roman influence grew this influence was separated mostly by the physical barriers of the North and Baltic sea's. The German language is a Romantic and based upon Latin as the other romantic languages. Parts of present day German were under Roman control and the rest was simply the exposure with the Romans and there culture.
These differences were also magnified by the Holy Roman Empire after the fall of the Roman Empire and Charlemagne's bloody campaigns in what is now present day German to remove no Christians from the region. And basically every non-Christian fled across the sea.

For the purposes of race classification, all the indigenous peoples of Northern Europe are classified as 'Germanic'. These include the Scandinavians, the Danes, the Dutch, the Frankish French, and in Britain just about everyone; the Celts and Anglo Saxons.

The Germans are obviously Germanic by virtue of being Germans. But like the rest of the Northern Europeans, the Germans too are a gathering of Germanic Tribes.

In the Alpine regions of Europe there are a great many people of Celtic [Germanic] descent, this especially applies to the Swiss and to some extend the Austrians. Most of these people, are classified as Germanic. On the southern side of the Alps, the Italian side, the people are mostly descended from Celts - Germanic.

Scandanavians live north of Germans in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Iceland. Some of the scandanavians can also understand each other (Norwegians, Swedes, and Danes for example) to varying degrees because their languages are descended from Old Norse, while German is descended from Gothic. While German, the scandanavian languagues, and English are all Germanic languagues, they all diverged at some point to produce relatively different results. Germany is economically a much stronger country than any of the Scandanavian countries, not only because it's population is higher than the previous 4 countries combined, but there are also several successful German companies worldwide (Puma, Adidas, Siemens, DHL, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Porsche, MercedesBenz...etc). Scandanavians also tend to have even lighter features than Germans, and much of the viking history the nordic countries share has resulted in them sharing literary works such as the Sagas like the 'Edda', while German literature is quite different- Parzival is rather old German story that deals with much different material than the Edda.

Here's your answer:
Similarites:They are of the teutonic peoples and they are both of the Caucasian-Germanic Race.
Differences in history, physical attributes, culture, etc.:The three major Caucasian sub groupings are known to academics as Nordic, Alpine and Mediterranean.
Germans are usually Alpine.
Nordics,are,well,Nordic!

They used to be one single Germanic tribe. But they have seperated onto smaller tribes throughout northern AND southern Europe. These included ,yeah, the Vikings.

The physical differences between a german and a Norseman is that Germanics have more squarish features [this is why people call them boxheads] and stronger jaws and with usually the same height as scandies but more broader.and Nordics have LONGER features [taller, longer more angular faces, thinner and pointier noses, fingers, etc.] and are more prone to lighter skin ,hair and eyes.

Reasons due to Christianity,Roman catholic expansion, and Influx of mixed race peoples led more and more to these groups seperating and being where they are today.

I Hope this helped.
