Please, do not follow Rob Pells advice. A hidden file is *not* hidden. I help a lot of friends with their PCs and carry "Total Commander" with me on a USB Stick. Its configured to always show hidden files, so I don't have to change the settings on my friends PC, but still help them, if I need to rdit hidden System files.

Try to think of an easy to remember word. Let's take for example "Sunshine".

This word is easily hackable. So make the word more difficult for a hacker to crack. Set a few imple rules. For example: an "i" looks like a ! turned upside down.
The S looks like a 5. So now your Password is: 5un5h!ne
This word is almost impossible to hack in a short time and you can even tell others that your Password is "sunshine" as noone knows of the changes you did.

Or think of a sentence like "I like my boyfriend Mark"
Now take the first two letters of each word "IlimyboMa"
Apply some simple rules to change this again. For example the o is like a 0 (zero).
Giving you "Il!myb0Ma"

This is impossible to guess for a hacker, but easy to remember for you.

Use a strange word or a sentence.
As much as I know, the password cracking programs plugin passwords and test whether they work or not. so use a sentence without spaces with no meaning words. use spaces before and after the password, use numbers, use Shift key in the password, and best of all, use a foreign word which has no meaning in English, like "ramze obur"which means "password".

I also think the 4th answer is kind of cool. well if you remember what did you do to your word or sentence. anyway, just make sure its impossible to be in an English Dictionary.

By all means, take the above answer, but as an addition: don't use a password, use a passphrase. Thinking of a sentence and taking letters out of it is all well and good, but with any decent login system, there's nothing to stop you from using the whole sentence as your authentication method.

Don't leave copies of it anywhere except for your brain. If you forget it, normally there are ways to retrieve it easily anyhow.

Edit: For the second time in a row I post the same thing at the relative same time next to someone else. Great :p
