At the recommendation of Stephen King in his book "On Writing" I now take a book with me wherever I go, does anyone else?

I take a book (sometimes two) wherever I go. I went shopping yesterday and took a novel. On the train last week a reference book, to the pub for lunch, the cinema, friend's houses...
You never know how long you will be left bored for if something happens so taking a good book can sometimes be a real life saver (like when the coach got stuck in traffic for 3 hours a couple of months back - I was glad of having a long book with me that day.
Plus it makes you look clever which makes people ask you for advice which can be cool.

I always have a book on the go and take it with me. I love cracking open a new book and love my book obsession. Didnt read that though by Stephen King but it is a good idea.

Yep, I take a book to read and a book for notes (because I also write!).

Current book is entitled 'Salt, A World History'! Previous book and one I would recommend to anyone who likes history, travel, politics, religion - is William Dalrymple's 'From the Holy Mountain' - boy did that open my eyes to why we have the problems between Muslims, Christians and Jews, both here and in the Middle East. And why oh why are we not made more aware of how the Israeli's are destroying the Christian and Islamic historical artifacts in Jerusalem whilst preserving Jewish ones? Read it - it's one of the best books I have ever read.

Always! I went on the Park and Ride bus yesterday, only an eight to ten minute ride into town, but couldn't stand the thought of sitting there without a book, so paid a quick trip to the library and picked up a quick pick book, Minette Walters short, factual story about Norman Thorne, who, in 1924 was hanged for chopping up his girlfriend! Almost finished it on the return bus, definitely read it by last night. Called the Chicken Farm Murder!

I also love Stephen King books. I take at least 2 whenever I go away, at the moment I am reading 'The Green Mile' again.

Yes, everywhere. I read in the toilet, at breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner. I read on the bus or in the car when waiting for all sorts of things. I read in bed for 20 minutes every night and I get through an average of 1 book every 8 days. I read all types from thrillers to romances. War books, Sci-Fi and biographies. Historical novels and fun novels. I largely choose a book by the cover design and title.I confirm my selection with the synopsis.

Not everywhere, but I usually have a book with me if I plan on sitting down to eat alone, or if I anticipate a long wait. I always have at least one book with me on a journey. I find it puts off the loonies/bored old people who might otherwise engage me in conversation.

The books I re-read the most are the Terry Pratchett "Discworld" series. Have to be careful not to laugh out loud too much though. Can be embarrassing.

Yes. Every paperback I've ever owned is raggy from traveling in my purse. Carry a book to the bathroom (which usually has 2 or 3 in it already), it beats reading the back of the shampoo bottle! Take books to work (a luxury of my job-breaks with time to read!). Have had to resist the impulse to try to read while driving. Currently reading a Tony Hillerman mystery, George Carlin's "Brain Droppings", a book on Alzheimer's (work related) and something called "Bushworld" who's authors name escapes me. No new Pratchett available;-( Good luck and happy reading!

Yes, and for these reasons.

I don't like waiting without something to do. (Public transport, appointments, queues, although I try to make sure I'm ready by the time I get near the front of the queue.)

I enjoy reading, and have developed the trick of walking along and reading, without bumping into anything. I don't have to stop enjoying the book, except when crossing the road or there are too many people about to do it safely

Lastly, unlike a mobile phone, iPod etc, there is almost no possibility of annoying other people around me.
