Chewing is not an issue, he is great at that. But is there anything in it that could make him sick?

I'd wait a while before feeding him prosciutto as it is pretty salty and his little kidneys may find it hard to deal with. Wait until he is 24 months.

EDIT - I'm afraid that the other poster is mistaken. Prosciutto is not cured with nitrates.

All deli meats have a preservative called Sodium Nitrite. This ingredient is converted by your digestive system into a carcinogen (cancer causing agent). However this conversion can be blocked if some form of Vitamin C is consumed with the meat. Tomato, Cantaloupe, Fresh O.J. etc. It's a shame that more people don't knoiw about this and that very little is done in regard to cancer prevention.

I think that the salt content is too high for the time being. As far as I know, cured and processed meats (cold cuts) should be avoided as they contain high amounts of sodium. Some, such as the cold cuts, can have lots of preservatives and nitrates that your baby is too young to consume. Best to feed your baby fresh meat and cook it yourself or buy commercially prepared baby food with meat..

I let my ten month old taste it, but that is about all. Too much salt.
If you buy the meat from a private person who smoked it in a village it will be pure, with no Sodium Nitrite.
Try someone born in Serbia or Bosnia. They are always smoking meat in their sheds!
