West Point grads!! What do you think about sending 8 guys in 2 Hummers into a WAR without air cover?

What the HELL is wrong with the generals that are sending a couple of Hummers with no air cover into a WAR?!

In Los Angeles, they send out 10 squad cars and a helicopter or TWO just to catch a car-thief, should he decide to "terrorize" the freeway by driving the same speed as everyone else!!

Why can't we put SNIPERS on every tall building in Baghdad?
Why can't we send out a decent size convoy, when something needs to be checked out?
Why can't we drive Humvees on the streets that run parallel to the one the main contingent is driving down? (So as to make sure it is more difficult to approach it.)
Why can't we drive a remote controlled car infront of the Humvees?
Why can't we analyze where the bombs came from?
Why can't we arrest A SINGLE person when attacks happen?--I am not talking about dragging people out of homes; I am talking about CHASING and CATCHING terrorists like the police do in L.A.
Do any of you West Point (or other MILITARY school) grads think this is FUBAR?!

Baby, the West Point Grads are SLEEPING. Anyone in the military is sleeping or working right now.

My husband is in the military (and I am a cop), and some of these questions sound like what I have asked him before.

Air cover. It is there and available for anyone who asks for it. But the military doesn't have the manpower or the means to send air power with every couple of hummers that go out. Do you have a helicopter to go out with every vehicle that leaves the PD when you go on patrol? Of course not. You have to look at it the same way. These guys are on patrol. They are in armored vehicles for extra protection. God, I wish they could all be in tanks or have air support every time they go out, but it is impractical.

SNIPERS- they have them, but there are just not enough people in the military to place a sniper on every building in Baghdad.

From what he says, the CONVOYS are a decent size.And BTW, the larger the convoy, the larger the target from the bad guy's perspective.

Don't know about the Humvee question

Remote controlled cars- they have them and use them when they can. But you have to remember that IEDs are small and tanks and Hummers are big and take up more space than what a little remote controlled car can cover in the amount of time that it has between it and the armored vehicle. increase the space between the vehicle and the RC car and someone runs out there and plants a new IED inbetween.

How do you mean analyze? Its not like the iraqi people are in CJIS. What is fingerprinting going to accomplish when there is no national database? Anything past that, they do analyze- like what type of weapon, where it was manufactured, but that still doesn't prove who bought it and from whom.

Arresting persons- that part is equally frustrating to everyone there. But in LA, you have someone who points out the terrorist, or a description. Take away race- since everyone there looks the same, and remember that most clothing there looks the same to foreign eyes, and you are left picking out a needle in a haystack. And when you chase someone in LA, you don't have to worry about bombs planted in the ground or the person exploding when you catch them.

So, not as FUBAR as you might think, just very frustrating. Its a war, and until we can provide an entire army of remote controlled people and vehicles to do the job, things are going to be like this.

Very good idea,hit on first and last veichle should trap your convoy easily,are you saying american army should ALWAYS move in form of convoyes?

Dude,do you think they are patrolling on the freeway or cities of a planned city+What difference is that going to make anyway?Do you think your army is fighting with artificial intelligence?

Why don't you hire some people for security of American soldiers?They can still attack you from right left and behind or air..or may be american marines can trade the car for safety,or not attack people for oil at all?Anyway,Blowing up the car infront of marine or damaging it so it stops can also be a death trap for them+you should send a body guard or more with americans deployed on streets too
