Most places accept the American Dollar, but I would suggest exchanging to pesos to get the best deal. Shops usually will use a 10:1 conversion, when actually it is closer to 11:1, so if you are looking for a good deal, shop around for the "casa de cambio" with the best rates...if you aren't looking for the best deal, the US Dollar will be just fine. Have a great vacation :)

A big tourist place like Cancun will accept American Dollars everywhere, if somewhere doesn't all you have to do is step into a bank there and they will convert your Dollars to Pesos. Just check on the conversion rate before you go it is usually like 1 dollar: 10 pesos. Don't take Canadian money.

Simply do a currency exchange at your resort when you arrive in Cancun. They accept American dollars almost everywhere, but it is a bit cheaper if you use pesos.....also easier. Almost all the resorts have a place to exchange currency. How much?? Depends on what you plan on doing and if you are staying at an all-inclusive resort. If it is all-inclusive....remember tips for the maids, bartenders, and waiters. If you plan on going to any clubs at night......the wristbands run about $40 per club......all you can drink. Also...remember tip for your waiter. I would allow $100 per day just to be safe. You can always use an ATM for additional money if you prefer to carry less....that is what I usually do. You can get money in either pesos or american dollars from the ATM. If you plan on doing any tours.....you can get some prices for that from www.cancun.com to give you an idea about the cost for that.

Don't bother with the Canadian money. Most places down there will take American dollars so I'd suggest just bringing that, you can always change it for some pesos down there if you need to but I've never needed pesos in Mexico, even most of the little tiendas take American money.

US dollars are fine. How much? Up too you. Don't carry large amounts of cash with anywhere. Use travelers checks too. Safest way and if you loose them they can be replaced. Also, don't expect change back in US dollars. Most place will give change back in Pesos. If you need to exchange US dollars for Pesos most if the larger hotels and resorts will have a foreign money exchange desk in their lobbies.

I go to Mexico a lot and I change a little of my money at the airport, and change the rest latter. There are alot of places to change your money there too, at least there are where I stay and it isn't a tourist area, so I can only assume there would be in a tourist area too.
