They usually spit it out, but they very easily could. Particularly bottom feeders or large predatory fish.

goldfish do more often than other fish. my goldfish like to wake me up in the middle of the night spitting gravel at the sides of the tank. karma is bound to catch up.

Yes, that's why you should always have gravel bigger than your biggest fish's mouth or small enough that even your smallest fish can spit it out easily.

I don't think so... whenever they're searching for food at the bottom of the tank, they spit out whatever gravel they suck up.

most people dont know that goldfish need gravel because thats how they balance in the water! , but can spit it out if needed.

I think they could. I'm not very expert, but Plecs probably could. We put cucumber in the tank yesterday and my plec ate a hole right through it! I'm surprised he didn't explode

yes i had a gold fish with a pebble in its mouth for over a week had to remove it myself

not so acidental ,fish suck in water with whatever it contains and the particles they dont want get blown out again
