It depends on who's point of view you use. To the host, they are to the left and the guest is to the right. Also I have seen different shows do different seating arrangements.

i believe only carson daly and craig ferguson(sp?) sit on the left side
that is current latenight examples while leno conan kimmel and letterman sit to the right.
